Meet Colleen & Colleen, proud owners of Mama Said Tees. They started their little “company that could” in hopes to make a difference in the world and 2.5yrs later they are doing just that!
Just 5 days after they opened up shop, Colleen Stine’s sister was killed in a murder/suicide. This horrific act of domestic violence was witnessed by Colleen’s two nephews (8 and 10 at the time). In the blink of an eye they were without parents on this earth. This act ignited a passion that could not be stopped. Colleen & Colleen realized that they didn’t just want to change the world, but they needed to. They needed to try and prevent this from happening to anyone else. (Colleen has since adopted her two nephews and they are finding their new normal as a loving, crazy family of 7!)
They started their company with the design “Kind is the New Cool”. Selling t-shirts about love & kindness was what they were doing, but what they were hoping is that these messages would strike up conversations. They hoped that someone in line at the grocery story would comment on someone’s shirt or parents would ask their children what their shirt meant to them. The shirts were the starting point. The conversation came next. The reminder to be kind that lingered with people would follow. All these steps would hopefully make someone stop for a moment and remember to be kind when they were feeling not so nice. And boy were they right.
The outpouring of love & support for their company just made their drive that much stronger. People needed this. The world needed these messages. They couldn’t stop there. They went on to create campaigns such as the Let’s Redefine Normal Campaign: a campaign to promote acceptance for everyone. Acceptance to be who they are and appreciate others for their differences.
This was followed by the T.H.I.N.K. Dare. A challenge for kids and adults to T.H.I.N.K. before they say or do something. It was time for people to be held accountable for their actions and we wanted to give them a way to do it.
Colleen & Colleen continue to push boundaries and spread kindness, not being it is “trendy” to be kind, but because the world NEEDS to be kind. We need to make a difference Because Kindness Can…change the world!
