Mommy Wardrobe Essentials

From contributor Rebecca of Mommy in Heels

If there is one thing I have learned in the almost six (six already?)  years of being a Mommy it is what works for me and what doesn’t in terms of my wardrobe. I used to live by the motto ‘fashion before function’ but I quickly realized (at least for me) running around with my girls is a lot easier in somewhat sensible but stylish clothes!

Gone are the days of wearing four inch heels on a daily basis. Those are typically saved for date nights with my husband! I’ll share with you a few of my favorite “mommy wardrobe essentials.”  These are typically my go-to pieces that are perfect for mixing and matching. Not to mention they easily transition from day to night, play date to date night! These are pieces that every mommy should have!

A basic blazer has got to be one of the most versatile pieces a woman can own! You don’t have to spend a lot on them either. Places like Target and Kohls are excellent for low cost options. I can honestly say I have worn the very same blazer for:

A job interview-as a part of a suit

Date night-skinny jeans and heels

Girls night out-boyfriend jeans and ballet flats

Running errands-with a tee shirt with a pair of Converse)

Basic or graphic tee shirts are the best! I would be lying if I said I did not wear mine to work out in, sleep in, lounge in and just go out and about in! I really think there is nothing that is more classic and timeless looking than a blazer and a plain tee shirt. There are so many places where you can get them for a really inexpensive price, so adding them to your closet in several colors is always an option!

Boyfriend Jeans: Gap /// Necklace: BaubleBar /// Blazer: Target /// Tee Shirt: Target /// Shoes: Yosi Samra /// Scarf: Stella and Dot

Boyfriend jeans are the best! I love the slouchy, casual vibe they have, and how they can add a little edge to any look. The versatility they have can’t be beat- pair them with a pair of sneakers, flats or heels and you have yourself a great look.

Basic ballet flats have certainly come a long way over the last several years. In my younger years I would never have thought that one day I would love to incorporate ballet flats into my every day look! They are perfect for on the go mommy’s! I love my pair of Yosi Samra flats, because they are foldable, which means I can toss them in my purse or diaper bag if I am in need of a quick shoe change!

Scarves/statement necklaces are a great and inexpensive way to update your wardrobe. If you don’t want to spend a lot on new clothes, simply purchase a new scarf or a new statement necklace. You would be surprised at how much the look and feel of your outfit can change just by adding something as simple as a scarf!

Don’t let the thought of building a “mommy wardrobe” overwhelm you! Start with the basics I chatted about and go from there! You will be surprised at how easily you can mix and match all of those pieces, and how versatile they are!
