Hi! I’m Michelle & I’m the owner of Fifth & Mae. I’ve been obsessed with jewelry & jewelry making since I was a toddler thanks to my mom who owns a large jewelry supply company and brought me along when she attended jewelry shows, conventions, and showrooms. I’ve worked for her my entire life and when I got married my husband started working for us as well! In 2012 we found out that for us to have a second child we would need very expensive fertility treatments and I knew I needed to do something to bring in extra income. It was the perfect excuse to do something I had dreamed about for years!
I started gathering a few pieces and launched a little online shop. Within the first month I had contacted a couple bloggers who brought a lot of exposure which allowed me to expand my inventory and the store started growing very quickly. In the beginning I decided I would only sell items that I would wear, I tried not to pay attention to what other companies were selling and what seemed popular at the time. I wanted it to be “me”. I knew it was a risk to not sell what was popular at the time (big statements, lots of color!) but I filled my store with dainty gold rings, natural stones, tiny stud earrings, etc. I can’t explain how thrilled I was to see those items flying off the shelf. I felt so proud that my entire store was stuff I wanted to buy and that others wanted to buy as well.
In 2014 I was able to start designing and manufacturing pieces exclusive to F&M and look forward to transitioning our shop to only have items created and manufactured by us – it truly is a dream come true!
