4-ways to stay motivated as a work-at-home mom

Finding a balance between work life and home life can be challenging when you are a work-at-home mother. Between meltdowns, dirty diapers, and cleaning paint out of your white, and thankfully bleachable couch. For some, hiring a nanny to help out isn’t a possibility at the moment while growing your business. Here are some helpful tips I’ve learned from other work at home moms.

Create Routine
It’s important to set ‘office hours’ for your work. These hours are the hours that you are able to successfully work through the day. Make sure that you are giving your children activities to keep them busy during these times to avoid distraction while you work. Even though you have created a routine as moms, routine is not always possible. The bonus of working from home is the flexibility you have as a mother so sometimes it’s okay to make those office hours flexible for a trip to the zoo or playdate.
Dress Up
As quick and comfortable as it may be, wearing yoga pants might not help you reach your fullest work potential during the day. Wake up before the kids and get ready for work. Challenge: Try to do this 2-3 times per week and see if you notice a spike in motivation.
Nap-time Equals Work-time
As mothers we are always told “Nap when they nap” but when you work out of the home, to be efficient you need to use up every second of uninterrupted time you can. This is the ideal time to schedule phone calls or anything else that needs uninterrupted time.
Enjoy Family Time
Part of that routine that you are creating should also involve time carved out specifically for your family. This is a great time to show your kids (and spouse) that your work is not more important than they are. It will save you from looking back and wishing that your child had more memories than you with a cell phone or computer at all times.

Thanks for the tips! I really liked this part – “To be efficient you need to use up every second of uninterrupted time you can. This is the ideal time to schedule phone calls or anything else that needs uninterrupted time”. I’ll definitely keep this in mind. Thanks!

Thank you Gianna! I struggle daily with the realization that I just do not get much ‘me’ time when the kids are asleep. I’d say half the time all I want to do is kick my feet up and rest, but conference calls are always a must during nap-time.
