Why Your Newsletter is Your Best Asset

laptopMost people balk at the idea of a newsletter and tell me the only thing that matters is Instagram. Do you own Instagram? No, you don’t. Do you own you customer email list? Yes, you do. So why are you ignoring your biggest asset?

Yes, Instagram is important, but so is your newsletter. Your newsletter remains the most effective audience and customer building tool you have as a business, allowing you to drive loyal customers and readers back to your site every day.

A common mistake I hear from brands and bloggers alike is that they fail to develop a dedicated newsletter for their business.

I’m going to break down why you need a newsletter:

Awareness

Publishing a newsletter gives you the opportunity to increase awareness of your brand, but also keep you top of mind with your current customers and readers. It puts you front and center with a new customer and allows you to have a one on one contact with them.

Promotion

A newsletter is an easy and strategic way to promote products or launch new products. It’s also an effective tool for building excitement for a new product or service.  Including information on special offers helps reinforce your advertising and promotional campaigns. Plus, running special offers exclusive to readers enhances the value to the newsletter.

Contact

Issuing newsletters on a consistent schedule helps you maintain contact with customers and prospective customers in between purchases.  A customer that receives communication from you on a regular basis is much more likely to buy from you than the customer that never hears from you!

Growth

By placing a newsletter sign up on your website, you can capture contact details of prospective customers by asking visitors to subscribe. This is a low cost way of communicating with a “new lead” and leaves you more time and money to focus on other forms of advertising.

Have I sold you on the importance of a newsletter? I hope I did. Now, you may be asking yourself (and me), “well how do I get a ton of subscribers?”. I’ll break down a few easy strategies in my next post on how to build and grow your newsletter list.

In the meantime, you can catch me on Instagram.
