When It’s Time for a Break

It's OK to Take a Break.

The last few months have been crazy. I’ve traveled to Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina.  Started a new job. Moved into a new house. And am preparing for the arrival of my first child at the end of August. Sometimes life moves at a leisurely pace, and other times it seems to move so quickly that it’s hard to stop and take a breath. So what does this mean for your blog?  What happens to writing posts, keeping up with editorial calendars and keeping it interesting for your followers? Sometimes the best thing we can do for our blog is to Take.A.Break. This summer I’ve needed to slow down and focus on the other areas of my life that were demanding more attention, and my writing has taken a backseat.  I have learned the importance of paying attention to the signs of when a burnout is close by.

Signs you need a break:
+ You’re not feeling creative and the words you write seem uninspired and stale.
+ There’s no free time to rest and recharge.
+ You don’t have time to set aside for relationships.
+ Small interruptions to your schedule throw you off.
+ What used to bring you great joy, now seems like a hinderance.
+ You are running out of patience.
+ You’ve simply stopped caring about the things that matter most.

How to take a break:
+ Plan ahead, prepare your readers and most importantly, get offline.
+ Do the thing or things that bring you joy and are most fulfilling.
+ Don’t place high expectations on yourself.
+ Return to your writing feeling refreshed and inspired.

If you need a break.  Take one. It’s something that your blog, your family, and your mind will thank you for.  And all will benefit from the much needed rest. I would love to know, how would you take a break? How would you spend the time to recharge and get inspired again?
