Sleep is so important for both mama and baby. Most moms I talk to regret their nursery set purchase and wish they would have done more research before rushing into it. While nursery furniture sets can be easy, they may not always be practical for the long haul. I’ve complied the eight must have items for the nursery to survive with baby. Everything else can be gradually collected overtime. I promise, she won’t know that you didn’t have that picture hung in time for her arrival.
Crib: We are just recycling the one we used on my son, Liam but I can not get over this one. Want a more cost efficient option? Try the selection at Ikea.
Dresser: A must for clothing organization in any bedroom. We never used the dresser as a changing table (like we assumed we would). My recommendation: buy two nightstand dressers than can be placed side by side until it’s time for the crib to be converted, then they can be used as nightstands.
Bedding: Skip the fancy bumper and crib skirt and opt for a fun crib sheet. We splurged on this one from LON as the main sheet and the bought a few plain white crib sheets for when an unexpected mess happens.
Lighting: Something that you need for those late night feedings and diaper changes. I think a floor lamp and a night light are both necessities. We love this night light from Housey Home.
Rocker: For me, additional seating is essential for late night nursing. A very popular option is this rocker. Design Advice: before you buy a rocker or glider ask yourself if the item would work as furniture in other parts of your house. For the amount of money you will be spending, it should.
Diaper Pail: Never did I or would I spend money on what seems to be the perfect solution to dirty diapers. My advice is to opt for an inexpensive bin with a lid like this one.
Storage: Floor bins not only make eye appealing hampers bit also great toy storage. In my case, we also use floor bins for cloth diaper storage.
Clothing Hangers: I’m a sucker for matching and functional hangers. These Joy Mangano hangers are my favorite and help keep everything in order.
Additional Must Haves:
Aden + Anais swaddle blankets are a must for every room in the house. I think 6-8 is a great number.
A humidifier is something that can be overlooked. We use ours all winter long.
*Note: I did not add a diaper changer and a sound machine because we did not find either useful to us.
