Small Business Spotlight // AshleyGabby Designs + $75 Giveaway

Hello lovelies! I’m Darlyn of AshleyGabby Designs. I love being creative, am crazy about my 16 year old daughter, my funny and adorable husband, and my rather large extended family!

I started AshleyGabby Designs in April 2013 in order to work from home while caring for my daughter Stephanie, who has a variety of special needs. For me, this business carries two main rewards: Firstly, it allows me to do what I love, in the company of those I love; and secondly, I have the opportunity to dedicate all of my hard work in some way to my daughter and all other children with life threatening conditions. I decided that the best way to do that was to donate a percentage of my annual play tent profits to charity.

For 2015, AshleyGabby Designs will be donating to Idic 15 Canada. This organization is very close to my heart, as my daughter has Isodicentric 15. It is an extremely rare chromosome abnormality in which a child is born with extra genetic material from chromosome 15. There are only around 60 known children in Canada with this condition. Idic15 Canada is a not for profit organization which provides resources, collaboration, advocacy and research to families living with Chromosome 15q11.2-13.1 Duplication Syndrome. This organization is born from the need to advance medical, family resources and awareness in Canada and internationally.

While I enjoy creating a variety of handmade products such as chunky throws, quilts and pillows, my heart belongs to designing play tents that I make for children and, increasingly, pets! I primarily use 100% natural unbleached canvas as the base for my designs and love to add accents of beautiful printed cottons. My vision is “creating a space for imagination” – and one of my greatest joys is the connection I make with my customers, many of whom are excited to share photographs of their loved ones enjoying their new spaces! My goal has always been to provide a product that appeals to a child’s sense of imagination and their need to have their very own personalized space, while still fitting into the design theme envisioned by the parent. It warms my heart to see my work bringing joy to both children and parents alike!
