With celebrity fans like Kim Kardashian (who gave them as gift to her wedding guests) and Sasha Obama (who held her tenth birthday at Georgetown Cupcake) — this is one cupcakery we can’t stop raving about. Well until we read their oh-so-sweet memoir, The Cupcake Diaries. With recipes by the sisters, stars of the hit TLC series DC Cupcakes inspires readers to do what you love and love what you do. Selling as many as 10,000 cupcakes a day Georgetown Cupcake is the go-to place with crowds filling the streets, you always go back for more! The Cupcake Diaries (HarperOne; hardcover; $23.99) is about the important lessons they’ve learned, cover to cover recipes, tips, inspiring stories and mouth-watering photographing. Words of advice: don’t start reading until you have a cupcake in hand!
How can you not love a book that is filled with yummy cupcake recipes and it’s pink? You just can’t. It adds the perfect sparkle to your coffee table. Thanks to Sophie & Katherine we are giving ONE very {lucky} reader a copy of The Cupcake Diaries to read while they enjoy one dozen cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes. Excited yet? Read on to enter and get all the details on The Cupcake Diaries!
cupcakeMAG: Ah, The Cupcake Diaries! A perfect name for this collection of oh-so-sweet recipes and memories. We absolutely love the concept behind the book! What made you decide on writing the book together?
Sophie & Katherine: It was a natural next step for us. We grew up baking together with our grandmother and it was very much a family bonding experience. After our show, DC Cupcakes, on TLC premiered, we got such a wonderful response from viewers who also loved to bake with their families…so we wanted to be able to share our cupcake recipes with other families so they would be able to bake them together at home.
You share over 30 recipes with readers. This is going to be a tough question but, do you have a favorite?
Our favorite recipe from the cookbook is the Milk Chocolate Birthday cupcake. It was the recipe that we first baked together – for our grandfather’s birthday when we were 4 and 3.
When we last spoke, you were very excited about Season 2 of DC Cupcakes! Looking back, what has been your greatest memory to date of filming the show?
Our favorite episode so far was DC Cupcakes: My Sweet Wedding – the one-hour special on Katherine’s wedding! It was a very heart-warming episode and of course, there was all the major family drama of planning a wedding, making a 9 foot+ tall cupcake wedding tower, and running a business at the same time! We are filming more new episodes now — they get even more wild and crazy — so stay tuned!!
In the back of the book you share your growing list of cupcake flavors — 80 and counting! Do you have a best seller?
Our best-seller is our Red Velvet cupcake.
With a hit show, running a fabulous business and now adding authors under your belt (or, should we say apron) – what has been the most challenging for you juggling so many amazing things?
The most challenging thing is getting by with very little sleep! :) We thrive on the action and love staying busy but it does catch up with you once in a while…
How surreal was it for you both, making the biggest, sweetest cupcake creation ever for Katherine’s wedding?
Katherine’s wedding cupcake tower was an amazing experience – from baking it, putting it together, and decorating it – to seeing it all completed at the reception. We joke that more guests took their photos beside the wedding cupcake tower than with Katherine!! :) It was surreal!
When you aren’t baking or busy filming – what do you do for fun? what is the perfect day off for you?
We love to cook at home, savory dishes, especially with our Mom!!
