I learned this little trick a while back and thought I would share it with you guys! It is so annoying that you can’t create linked text in an iPhone signature, right? I know, I know, total first world problem But still – I love the clean look of having a hyperlink instead of a full link written out in my signature.
Fancy Email Signature in your iPhone
And let me stop here and say – you do know how incredibly important it is to have your signature set up, right? Please stop what you are doing right now and go set up a professional signature in your email before you go any further! It lets every single person you email know where they can find you, makes your email more searchable in an inbox, and really just looks prettier than that pesky “this was sent from gmail” that they automatically insert for you.
If you have a gmail account you’re in luck – I did a couple of quick screen shots to show you how to set up your signature!
(1) Log in to your gmail account and click on the little gear in the top right corner and then click on settings.
(2) Scroll down to about halfway down the page until you get to the “signature box” and this is where you will put all your information in.
(3) If you want to insert an image, you need to have the image URL. This is easy – just hop over to your website, right click on your logo, and click on “copy image link”. Come back and paste it in this little box.
(4) Once you have everything like you want it, scroll to the bottom and click “Save Changes”.
Wahoo! You have just created an email signature – so fancy. Look at you go girl!
Now let’s make your iPhone signature MATCH your email signature!
(1) From your computer, send yourself an email with the new signature included in it.
(2) Get your trusty iPhone out and open up this new email. Notice that the signature is there, and smile at your craftiness. ;)
(3) Double tap on the text so the selector pops up, select the entire signature, image, text, hyperlinks and all, and then click on “copy”
(4) Go to the “Settings” app on your iPhone, and scroll down to “Mail, Contact and Calendars” and select that.
(5) Scroll down and select “Signature”. If you have more than one account and do not have any signature set up it will ask if you want to have a separate signature for each account. Yes, that is what you want to do.
(6) Find the account you’re looking for, double tap in the open space, and click “Paste”.
(7) Voila – Fancy Signature, meet iPhone. iPhone, meet Fancy Signature.
(8) Scroll back up to the top and click on “
NOW, please note that this is only suited for the mail app that comes with the iPhone and I’m not sure if it will work with individual provider apps (gmail, yahoo, etc.) I’m sure it would, you can definitely try, but I haven’t so I can’t speak to that. Also, I’m sure the process would be similar in other smart phones but I’ve only ever used an iPhone (Mac Junkie fo lyfe) so I encourage you try it and let me know how it works out!
