Chatting with Jessica Fay is a little bit like basking in the sun. She has a warm welcome, a sunny disposition, and a way about her that brightens your day. She’s been able to experience many careers throughout her lifetime, but being the creator the blog Lipstick, Heels & a Baby seems like it was made for her. From easy-as-pie hair tutorials to styling clothes to home decor how-to’s, Jessica offers up endless advice that is hard to resist! As she took some time to chat with Kylie, she discusses it all!

From hairstylist to artistic director to network educator, you’ve been able to experience many different careers in your lifetime! How have your past careers influenced your present love of fashion and blogging? What inspired you to start blogging?
Being behind the chair as a hairstylist as well as an educator and artistic director has really given me the confidence to share my hair styling tips. I love making other women feel beautiful in their own skin and inspiring them to take care of them selves to be the best they can be. I started my blog as an outlet for my creativity when my husband was deployed to Afghanistan and I was staying home with our first son, Braydon. It made me feel better about myself knowing that even if it was just a few people, I was helping them feel better about themselves.
Your YouTube videos are an amazing resource for step-by-step hair and make-up tutorials! Do you find creating tutorial videos are easier or more difficult than creating content for your blog? Which do you enjoy more?
I really love creating videos. It gives me a lot more creativity and room for explanation. It is much more time consuming to film and edit a video so I do not get to make them as often as I would like. I am still learning every day tips to make my videos better, it is something I will master over time I am sure!

You seem to be a natural in front of the camera, whether it’s for a tutorial or a photo shoot. What advice can you give for those who are looking to explore the world of tutorial videos or modeling, but may be a little camera shy?
It is funny that you ask this question, when it comes to me being in front of a group of people I really get extremely nervous and a little bit of anxiety. When there is a camera around I get an extreme amount of confidence and I do not care who is watching. I am not sure really what gave me that confidence to be honest. I will say, it is always easier to start out when no one is watching. Take photos behind stores in an urban alley way, find a secluded place on the beach, or a really neat gravel trail in your local park. These locations can make for amazing pictures and there typically aren’t many people walking around. Also, wearing sunglasses and not looking into the camera can make you not feel as vulnerable.
It’s back to school for your little one! How have you been able to transition from a summer schedule to a school schedule for Braydon and the whole family?
Braydon starting preschool has actually be extremely good for us. I work from home and I would feel guilty when Braydon would want to go to the park or the beach and I wouldn’t have time to take him every day. Him being in preschool gets him the social interaction he needs during the week as well as gets me up and moving. I am much more productive knowing I only have a certain amount of time to be productive before I pick him up and we snuggle up on the couch and watch Curious George movies for the one millionth time!

I love how much you love your accessories! Which accessories are you most looking forward to for the fall season? Which accessories will be the hardest to put aside during the cold(ish) Florida winter months?
I do absolutely love accessories. They can take a simple tee and jeans and turn it to a whole new level. I LOVE fringe and love that I can wear it all year long. I look for leather and heavier fabric fringes in the fall and winter months and light and airy fringe kimonos and such for the summer months. I am really going to have a hard time putting away all of my spring and summer Kendra Scott Jewelry. Those blues and pastels are just to die for! I will absolutely be trying to find ways to make them appropriate for winter!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
If I could have one super power it would be to fly of course. It is funny, this is also what Braydon says he wishes he could do. His is for the sheer fact that Buzz Lightyear can fly. Mine is so that I could be in more places quickly, such as home, visit family, fashion week, PR events-you name it. It is impossible to do it all when I can’t fly, so seems like a legit request to me!

Favorite drink at Starbucks?
Venti Iced Caramel Latte in the summer and Venti Pumpkin Spice Latte with no whip in the fall and Venti Peppermint Mocha with skim and no whip in the winter!
What is your most overused emoji?
Palm Tree or Sunshine!
