During the day, Amy Welch is well-dressed, fashion-forward corporate gal. At night, she channels that love of fashion and style into her blog, Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins. Bringing together lifestyle + fashion tips and tricks, Amy’s blog is the go-to place for inspiration! And no matter what job she’s dressing for, you can bet she’ll be one of the most stylish gals in the room.

Not only are you a blogging babe, but you are also a corporate gal! How do your clothing choices differ depending on which job you’re dressing for?
Honestly, my first thought when I buy something is, “can I also wear this to work?” It isn’t always the case- I’m not going to walk into my office in a romper, but I do try to purchase items with dual functionality. I really believe in investing in the timeless classics (which typically are extremely versatile, think blazers, great boots, etc.) and then I find trendier pieces at stores like Forever21 and H&M that I’ll wear on the evenings and weekends – so when I spend $30.00 on a romper, I don’t feel so bad if it’s not work appropriate!
I love how fearlessly you incorporate patterns & bright-colored clothing into your everyday wardrobe! What advice can you give someone who is trying a new pattern or color for the first time? Are there any specific patterns or brights that you would recommend?
Honestly, stripes can do no wrong. Vertical, horizontal- they are timeless, classic and can be mixed with any pattern. If you’re fearful of mixing patterns, start with a stripe in a neutral color and then add another pattern (I love floral) with some fun colors! Instant success in pattern/color mixing!

You always have a wonderful variety of topics that you blog about! Do you ever have difficulty deciding what to write about? If so, where do you look to for inspiration to overcome your writer’s block?
It is so hard to think of new material without there being one million others posts just like it out there. But as bloggers we try- plus, sometimes it’s just nice to get another person’s take on a subject, clothing item, new beauty item etc. I try to pull inspiration from everywhere I go, everyone I talk to and my own personal life. “Would I want to read a blog post about that” is always the first thing I try to ask myself. If I can’t answer yes to that question, then I don’t write about it. As far as writer’s block, I try to keep a running list of ideas on the notepad of my phone, this can help when I am just completely stumped! You never know when inspiration will strike and if you’re anything like me and your mind never stops, you’ll forget that great idea five second later! Write it down!
Your blog post about transitioning the same sweater from Summer to Fall to Winter is a great way to get the most use out of your clothes! What other pieces of clothing do you wear throughout the year? How do you transition them from one season to the next?
I love a soft lightweight sweater because I find they always transition from summer (with shorts in the evenings), to fall or to winter well. Also, blazers are always great transitional items, I wear 85% of mine year round. They practically go with anything, so they are a wonderful investment pieces because they will last for years. My favorite blazer is a black boyfriend one that I picked up at Target three years ago for less than $30.00. I also love wearing sleeveless dresses in the summer and then layering blouses under them for fall and winter to make them weather appropriate. Anything you can layer is a big winner in my book.

Describe your typical week day! How do you incorporate your corporate job + blogging + time with your family into your daily life?
Honestly, sometimes I don’t know how it all gets done, but it does, thank heavens! My husband works a ton, so I use my evenings when he is working to get a lot accomplished so I can spend his one day off from the hospital with him (usually on Saturday or Sunday) and TRY (being the keyword) to unplug from social media. As far as blogging, I usually try to schedule a few blog posts in advance on Sunday evenings to help lighten my work load throughout the week. Come Monday I aim to get up between 5:30-6 am, hit the gym, shower, and head to work for the day until around 5-6pm. After work, I’ll come home, work on the blog for an hour or two, walk the dogs, make dinner, clean up and then spend the rest of the evenings answering emails or preparing for the next day. On Wednesday’s I usually have a Junior League meeting and I always clean the house on Thursday evenings. I find sticking to a schedule like that and making a to-do list for the week help me so much! I am a tad OCD when it comes to organization, so if it’s not on my to-do list, it probably won’t get done! Life is very busy, but I am so thankful for it all!

Favorite meal for dinner?
Wine and cheese. I don’t know if that counts as dinner, but if it does, I am 100% okay with it.
Chocolate or Vanilla? Salty or Sweet? Iced coffee or hot tea?
Definitely vanilla all day, every day. Something Sweet and then salty. And always iced coffee, after all, my blog is Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins. :)
