Trying to figure out what to get my daughter’s teachers for the holidays always befuddles me.  This year we decided we’d make something that they could actually use!  It turned out so well that now we’ve decided to make it for her Aunt, Grammie and a little for ourselves.  I scoured pinterest looking for a great DIY Salt Scrub, and found quite a few.  We did some test runs, and the biggest issue we had was getting it to smell good.  Not that they smelled bad, they just didn’t smell much at all.  So here’s the recipe we finally settled on.

Here are the ingredients we used:

2 cups Epsom salt  (you can also use sea salt, or sugar, but the epson salt was not so rough so we chose it over the others)

1 cup Grapeseed Oil (has no scent so doesn’t compete with essential oils)

8 drops of an essential oil (Ok this really depends on the oil you use and how strong the scent is.  You’ll have to start with 8 drops and see if you need any more)

A mason jar or something else to put it in.

Mix all the ingredients into a bowl and stir.  We ended up using lavender essential oil, and sprinkled in some dry lavender buds as well.  Some recipes add food coloring to their scrub to give it color, but we wanted to go the natural route.

Fill your mason jar with your scrub and voila!  Instant DIY gift!  We tied ours with decorative twine and added these little gift tags to them . We also bought special mason jar lids at Michaels Craft Store for the tops of the mason jars where my daughter could write to and from.  We are enclosing a note stating that this scrub lasts for three months.  We are also including a slough glove (you can buy them at any drugstore) because using a scrub with a slough glove really works well!  (A spa gave me this secret).

Happy crafting!
