DIY make up brush cleanser

Have you ever thought about what kind of bacteria breading ground is on your makeup brushes?  When I began using a blender for my foundation, I had to also begin washing it daily. Once I realized that it was as simple as grabbing a couple on hand ingredients and creating a routine, I found it less daunting.

As you know, we here at cupcakeMAG love our Young Living essential oils.

Today I want to show you how simple it is to have a routine for your makeup brushes, including daily maintenance.

Great blogs post from theprettyoil.com using 3 home ingredients and essential oils, make a non toxic cleaner for your make up brushes. After reading about the mother who caught a life-threatening infection from a make up brush, I will be doing this daily!

For this recipe, I chose three Young Living essential oils: Lemon, Lavender, Purification. All three of these oils have cleansing properties without being too harsh for your make up bristles. They are also my go to oils to use on my skin and for any skin irritations, blemishes, or cuts!
brush sampoo methodWhat you need:
3 ounces Dr. Bronner’s pure castile liquid soap
3 drops Young Living Lavender
2 drops Young Living Lemon
1 drops Young Living Purification

Mix the oils and soap together in a small bowl. Then run your brushes through warm running water to get the bristles wet. Drip into soapy mixture and swirl in circular motions (you’ll see the mixture begin to turn the color of your make-up… it’s cleaning!) Take the brush out and swirl it in the palm of your hand to help disperse the oil/soap mixture throughout the brush. Do not pull on the brush as it can loosen it from the handle. Rinse under water until clean of make up. Gentle squeeze access water from brush and sit on paper towel to dry overnight. I like to run a hair dryer on low over my brushes for about 30 seconds to help fluff them up as drying. To maintain clean brushes, do this method weekly.

brush spray

What you need:
4 oz glass spray bottle
3-4 ounces of distilled water
pinch of epsom salts
4 drops Young Living Lavender
4 drops Young Living Lemon
2 drops Young Living Purification

Combine all ingredients together in the glass spray bottle and shake well. Spray directly on the brushes (2-3 sprays) and then swirl brushes in circular motion over cloth to remove excess make up and to purify the brushes. To maintain clean brushes, do this method daily.
