Diaper Chic

From the closet of Rebecca of Mommy in Heels

If there is one thing I have learned over the last 6 years being a Mommy it’s that there ARE cute diaper bags out there. I remember growing up and seeing the most hideous diaper bags. They served a purpose, and that was it. Now, it is possible to find the chicest of the chic to carry your tot’s diapers!

When I became pregnant for the first time, I new I wanted a super cute diaper bag. I wanted it to carry more as a purse than have it scream “DIAPER BAG.” After all, it is something that you carry all the time. Every day. No matter where you go. For me, it is something that I don’t mind spending a little extra money on.

Here’s why: it’s not like a purse. I don’t change it day to day, with every new outfit. It’s used every day, therefore I get my money’s worth out of it. Also, it is used for several years. I think with my first daughter I used the diaper bag until she was close to three. My youngest is almost two and I am still using my current one! Lastly, I want it to be able to hold up to the wear and tear of being used daily. I look at it as an investment piece!

Here are some things to consider before you buy:

1. Make sure it has different compartments. Not many, and they don’t need to be fancy, but having a few different ones for your bottles, diapers, etc. are good.

2. Make sure it has a changing pad. That’s pretty standard in diaper bags now. They are great to use in a pinch!

3. Does it come with straps so it can attach to your stroller? A lot of bags have little clips so you can free your hands to push your stroller

4. Comfort. My old diaper bag could be used as a messenger bag or a backpack which was awesome. My current one can be carried over the shoulder like a purse or as a messenger bag. Love both options.

5. Extra bonuses: My Timi and Leslie comes with a little clutch for Mommy! It’s nice to use in a pinch to toss my license and credit card in so I don’t have to use my diaper bag AND my purse. Less hassle! It also comes with a little pouch to store dirty diapers if you aren’t near a trash can.

Here are some brands that my friends and I have grown to love over the years:

Timi and Leslie. This is the brand I currently am using and I LOVE it. I have the Dawn in a raspberry  color and it’s perfect for me. It doesn’t look like a typical diaper bag, it is roomy, and just plain adorable. I opted for a brighter color just to be different!

Petunia Picklebottom also has really great diaper bags. They are roomy, the quality is really great and there is a great selection of prints and patterns to choose from! They have great accessories too that you can add to your purchase, like nursing covers and stroller clips!

The Bumble Collection doesn’t disappoint either. They are pretty similar to Petunia Picklebottom but a little less expensive. They serve the same purpose without compromising style!

I definitely encourage you to choose wisely, but don’t be afraid to spend some money. Like I said, its a bag you will be using every day for several years straight so it doesn’t hurt to spend a little more if you can- that way you know it will hold up over the years! Of course it doesn’t hurt if it’s cute too!
