People don’t always believe me when I say I started Enjoy Essential on a whim. I can’t even remember how it came up in conversation, but my girlfriend asked if I could make a Little Sister onesie for her baby, so I bought cheap Gerber onesies, a package of iron-on transfers and hopped on Photoshop. I love graphic design, and started playing around and posting things on Etsy just before Thanksgiving and sold 40 units immediately. Literally. Thinking it was a fluke chance, I created a couple more for another friend, posted them online, and sold 150+ in December for Christmas. That’s when I knew I needed to look into this “hobby” a little further.
I have a heavy background in sales and marketing, and I knew that’s where my strengths lied. I also had a HUGE Etsy bill that blew my mind- in December alone, I owed them $400 in fees and advertising costs. That’s when I knew I needed to start something of my very own. I found other small shops offering wonderful products and reached out to them, offering them the opportunity to work with my new site. I would promote their items along with my own, and help them expand their sales to a market they might not reach without the hardcore marketing I do on my end. I spent January brainstorming and launched www.enjoyessential.com in mid-February. From Feb-March, we doubled our traffic and from March 17th to today, it has more than quadrupled.
Enjoy Essential is a one-stop shop for items for the whole family. We have women’s and men’s tanks and tees, tons of apparel for kids (leggings, moccasins, bows, beanies, you name it) and even home decor. Everything is either handmade in the USA or sold by a work-from-home mom. Most items are made to order, so they’re made with you in mind. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and love our customers.
I also love the vendors I work with and I love helping them in every way I can. I think they are the most hardworking, talented women I’ve never met (it’s amazing the relationships you can establish via email!) and knowing that the products purchased on my site go back to women working from home thrills me. Being able to create things that people actually WEAR is an unreal concept to me, and absolutely amazing. When I wear my own tank tops, it comes with a sense of pride I’ve never felt before and when people tag the shop on Instagram, it’s the highlight of my day.
I’m the self-proclaimed Queen of the Clearance Rack, so I keep all of my prices within the margins of what I would personally spend on myself. Instead of $30 tank tops, mine are $15.99. Instead of $35 moccasins, ours are $15. Instead of $25 necklaces, we have ours under $10. We all want to be fashion-forward and trendy, but not everyone can spend so much on something their child will outgrow!
