About Daylin Skye

My business was born out of my own need…umm want…umm need! I had recently gone all out and purchased the iPad2 with all the bells and whistles. But on my very first trip to the coffee house with it tucked securely under my arm, I discovered it was so thin, I could just see myself dropping my very expensive toy. I did the whole internet thing, asking the great Google to show me iPad bags. I found a few but alas, none fit my personal style and need. So I went to a local designer fabric store picked up a few random pieces and set to sewing. It was adorable! (looking back now it was a bag only a mother could love.) My other friends and co-workers were also buying iPads and what started as, “hey, make me one!” soon became, “I need a gift for my niece, daughter…”

For me it was just playing around with patterns and fabrics and having fun. I’d bring a new tote to the office to show what I had learned and it would sell before I could make it back to my desk. About a year and a half later I made the leap. I left my corporate job and became a full-time handbag designer. Best decision ever. Daylin Skye Designs bags are all handcrafted in beautiful, sunny, southern California.

Something I don’t talk about often, but actually is an important foundation of my biz, is that all my bags are made from eco-friendly fabrics. I chose from the beginning to work with vinyls, polyvinyls, leather-likes, or vegan leather. It is solely a personal choice and one that works well for me living on this earth. I’ve been fortunate from the beginning to work with distributors who carry high quality vinyls. As I peruse the net looking at various well-known designers I am pleased to see that they are also choosing to work with eco-friendly and recyclable fabrics.
