We are a family run extra virgin olive oil business from tree to bottle. Myself, my husband Mike Coldani, sister in law Gina (Coldani) Sans, her husband Scott Sans, and their parents Steve and Jeanne Coldani. What started as my husbands California Polytechnic – San Luis Obispo, senior project on putting in a vineyard on family property, was quickly adapted into olive trees, as we all moved home to explore the options. After checking out some other olive ranches and seeing how well they grown in our mediteraean climate in Lodi, we decided to go for it, and Calivirgin was born. Over the next few years 100 acres of olives were planted. What we thought was going to be just a hobby at Farmers Markets, and for friends and family, has turned into an all encompassing business for us all.

We do everything from tree to bottle. We grow the Arbequina olives, we mill them into olive oil, bottle, & sell, all working together to make everything run smooth from point A-B. We all have our specific jobs delegated in the family. Mike and Steve do the farming, Mike does the milling, which is the making of the actual olive oil, as well as our blog and social media. Gina does a lot of our sales, accounting, runs our website and online store. I do sales, marketing, and events. Jeanne helps with a little of everything, including watching the kids for us! All working together we manage to get the most important stuff done.

One year as we were milling, we played around with making flavored olive oils. The big difference between us and most producers is we do NOT infuse. We mill WITH the fresh produce. Garlic, Lemons, Basil, Jalapenos, Oregano, Rosemary, & Buddha’s Hand are all placed on top of the olives. When the mill is pulling the oil from the olives, it also pulls out the oil from the produce. The result is a fresh oil that tastes just like the produce. This year alone all our oils have medals with a total 42 in 2014 alone. They are so fun to cook with, adding so much flavor from a healthy ingredient.

We have learned so much in this process, and so much about the health benefits of olive oil. We are usually being mislead with what is on a lot of store shelves across America. The health benefits are why we use olive oil, so we want to make sure we are buying a good quality extra virgin olive oil! We have our oil chemically tested, as well as certified by the California Olive Oil Council (COOC) to ensure to our customers that it is in fact extra virgin olive oil.
