I am no jet setter by any means, but I have traveled several times in my life (by car, bus, and plane…someday by train!). When I travel I do like to be comfortable without sacrificing style. I also like to make sure I have everything that I could possibly need on a long trip.
Here are my go to items when traveling by plane. I don’t like my carry on to be too huge, mainly because I don’t want to have to deal with a huge, overstuffed bag! I like to keep it simple, stylish, and practical!
SMALL TOTE
A small tote is perfect for a plane ride. Small enough to keep below the seat in front of you, which leaves it easily accessible. I personally love Blair Ritchey’s Going to Market tote. It is roomy enough to fit everything and can serve double duty as a beach/pool bag! Madewell’s Holepunch Transport Tote is also another great option! I love the roominess of it, as well as its durability.
LIGHTWEIGHT SCARF
Depending on where you are traveling from, and where your final destination is, the temps can change pretty drastically. I always like to pack a lightweight scarf (meaning not wool or a heavy knit). It’s an added accessory to your look, but can also keep you warm should your traveling get a little chilly! I love to toss my Stella and Dot scarf into my carry on.
MINI WALLET
I know as ladies we all tend to have a pretty huge wallet, that is super fancy, and super cute, and holds all 504 of our credit cards along with our id, and all of our cash. I don’t know about you, but my wallet can get pretty heavy. Because of that, I use a smaller wallet and just put my id, credit card and insurance card. Allows room for other things and is less heavy!
SMALL MAKEUP BAG
I don’t know how these celebrities do it- they travel for hours and hours and still look flawless (maybe its the team they have traveling with them?). I never pack my whole makeup bag with me for trips-its just too big. I will usually pick my everyday makeup items and put them in a smaller makeup bag to keep in my carry on. If my luggage gets lost at least I will have my makeup to cover my blemishes! Priorities, right?
MISC ITEMS
Lastly, these are some miscellaneous items that I always toss in my bag:
Kindle– I could read and read from take off to landing! Gossip magazines always make the cut too!
Socks- if I am wearing sandals. My feet are always freezing!
Gum- I like to chew it particularly when taking off and landing to help with my ears popping.
Mini Emergency Kit: filled with anything and everything you will need from lip balm, stain remover, safety pins. It is small enough too that it won’t take up a lot of room. Love it!
Cell phone and headphones-obviously! Who leaves home without their cell phone anymore?
Tylenol-you never know how stressful traveling will be, which can lead to headaches, aches and pains. Always need some relief on hand!
