Hey everybody, I’m Jessica! I’m a momma of two and wife to my amazing and supportive husband. I’m fairly new to this “mompreneur” thing, but I’ve always had a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit, starting in the 4th grade when I opened “The Sweet Boutique” for a class project. In my adult life, I’ve done quite a few different things, from selling crochet items on Etsy to flower farming and wreath making…and a little photography here and there whenever I could work it in (I also have a full-time job as an office manager). When I was pregnant with our son it was at the height of the recession and my husband and I were both working reduced hours. I will never forget how hard we both had to work to meet ends meet and how it felt to be waiting on a baby during those uncertain times. I know I’m not the only momma out there with a story like this and I just have to say how cool it is to be part of a huge community of fellow mompreneurs who are making it happen!!
The idea for Bellifly was inspired by this little daisy adorned sweetheart (when she was in my belly). I had the hardest time getting a good night’s sleep and my joints were killing me, especially with it being my second pregnancy. These cute little babies sure do take a toll on our bodies! I wasn’t a big fan of the larger pregnancy pillows and the belly wedge that I had just wasn’t comfortable…I wanted something compact with both hip and belly support and I also didn’t want to spend a fortune on a pillow that I would only use for a few months. So I decided to attempt to sew up my “perfect” pillow.
It helped me a ton during my pregnancy and afterwards I discovered that it was equally amazing for nursing! So then my wheels started spinning…I really wanted to make this pillow available to mommas-to-be everywhere! Over the next few months I tweaked the design a little and went to work trying to find the best USA based manufacturer. I wanted the finished product to be functional, durable, and pretty (because all moms deserve to feel special)! If I do say so myself, I think we did a pretty great job accomplishing that goal! My manufacturer has been amazing to work with and so patient as I insisted on “just a little more fluff to the ruffle”, the softest, most durable fabric, and reinforced stitching at the ribbon. The little details that make Bellifly really stand apart from other pillows on the market.
Exactly one year after our little girl was born, Bellifly got its wings! Since the launch, I’ve had the best time meeting so many special mommas (and mommas-to-be!) and gaining new friendships! I have a few new things up my sleeve for Bellifly (I’m always dreaming up new ideas) and I absolutely cannot wait to see what the future holds!
